Everyone's pretty much covered the issue you asked about.
But just a heads up: I used to use my pills to skip my period, and whenever you do have a period again for the first time after skipping them, it will be considerably worse than a normal period. Bad PMS, cramping, heavier flow. No fun.

I'd be perfectly content to skip periods forever if I can just get past this weeks-long period (much lighter and no cramping since I removed the ring - b/f is getting anxious and we're both off Monday & Tuesday so hopefully this is all over by then).

So I finally stopped bleeding. Now I'm wondering, since I took the ring out, but it wasn't during what would have been the scheduled ring-free week, but I was bleeding and I didn't have it out a full week (5 days), when I put my new ring in, will I immediately be covered? Or will I have to wait a week? I'm not going to start bleeding again when I put the new ring in am I? Do I start my 4 weeks over again?

T-Baby,

While it can be helpful to hear other people's stories and experiences with different types of birth control, no one here is a doctor or nurse. In order to receive the best possible answers and advice on this matter, you should really call the prescribing gynecologist.

Hmm that's interesting. My doctor told me i had to stick to the three weeks in and one week out otherwise I would lose protection. Any way I've switched back to depo since then because I couldn't adapt well to the 3 in one out schedule.

Though when I first went on bc I chose depo and ended up bleeding for about nine months straight. I didn't have that problem the second time so I figure it was just getting used to the hormones that caused it.

I just called and she said I was still protected. She also said my body may not accept skipping periods so to just do the 3 weeks/1 week thing. I think in a few months, though, after my body gets used to the hormones, I'm going to try skipping my period again. I figure the worst that can happen is I'll have a mega long period again in which case, I'll go back to 3/1.

Just thought I'd drop by to post an update in case anyone was interested.

I've been on Nuvaring for 5 months now. The first month I had the extra long period that initially prompted me to post. The month following that, I was able to skip my period. The 3rd month, I had a regular 5 day period (5 days before I was due to change rings, I started spotting so I just took it out for the 5 days and by the time I was ready to put the new one in on the regular scheduled day, my period was over). And for the last 2 months I haven't had a period.

So I think my body has finally gotten used to it. I know some people are freaked out by/against not having periods, but personally, I love it. I do have to admit that it does make me a little paranoid (am I missing periods because of the BC or am I pregnant? ) but I've also been doing regular home pregnancy tests and so far, so good.
