Normal to come faster during intercourse?

I once remember discussing some details of our sex lives with a friend of mine. I told him it seems like "I can last forever" when getting head from my wife, but as soon as we start intercourse, my orgasm becomes imminent--unless I lay on my back as she straddles me and let her do all the work (so-to-speak). In response, my friend said, "Really? I can last forever when I'm having sex. But whenever I'm getting a blowjob, I come really fast."

I sometimes wish I were like that friend of mine, because then I could more confidently make sure Amy has an orgasm during intercourse before I do, because that's the way we like it. (That is, she likes to come during intercourse and I like her to come before I do--because, if she misses the opportunity either before intercourse or before I ejaculate, her window of opportunity closes pretty rapidly thereafter, usually until the following night; that has been the norm in our household.) Not only that, but if I were more like my friend, Amy wouldn't have to put forth so much effort with her mouth and/or her hands to bring me to orgasm each time.

I've already asked the following question on this website: How can I postpone my orgasm longer? That wasn't the exact wording; I posted the question many months ago, and I don't remember the question or the responses clearly now. However, I never thought to ask: Is it more normal to be like my friend, to come quickly when getting a blowjob but slowly when having intercourse? Or is it normal to come more quickly during intercourse but to "last forever" when getting head? I recently caught a video in which each man seemed to come as if on cue when the generous woman in the middle deep-throated him. I thought to myself, Wow, it has never had that effect on me. And then I wondered (not for the first time in my life, I might add) am I abnormal?

I forgot to mention that when I was younger I would come pretty quickly either way. My first wife wanted me to learn how to last longer, so she bought me a book about how to hold back each time. Once I got the hang of that, by squeezing and holding the PC muscle just before coming, I would essentially experience a couple of mini-orgasms without ejaculation, until I finally let it happen when I no longer wished to wait.

In contrast, last night, Amy gave me a hand job that felt incredible; I felt on the verge of orgasm practically the whole time, but it still seemed to take me forever to come, that is, until Amy finally stripped off her clothes and I penetrated her.

Like most other aspects of sex, there is probably no "normal" in this case. What is fast for you, as you already pointed out, may be slow for someone else. I find that the sensations can feel different with each encounter, so I never know how I'll respond until the actual act.

I have been pretty happy lately. A long story which I won't go into here but We didn't have sex for over 4 years. Now that there has been a "re-awakening", we are like newlyweds again. I find I can last a lot longer than I used to (I am sure age has a lot to do with it), but it is great not to be so quick on the trigger. But the other night I just couldn't hold back and it was like the old days and I came within less than a minute of PIV sex. But we had had more than the usual amount of foreplay, which I am sure got things hotter. SO what I am saying is that one's response will vary from time to time.
